Choosing outfits can often be the most stressful part of getting family photos, but I’ve compiled some tips that might be able to help, as well as some color boards for inspiration! Today’s post is specifically focused on family Christmas card photos, but the general tips can be applied to any photo occasion!
Here are a few general tips to remember when choosing outfits:
Coordinate, don’t match. Choose a color or two and a neutral. Bonus points if you add a pattern that brings everything together!
If you have a young child that will most likely be held, try having their outfit be a different color or lighter or darker than mom and dad’s outfits so that they don’t blend in!
Don’t feel like you have to stick with traditional Christmas colors. Neutral colored or metallic Christmas cards are on trend this year, in addition to the usual red or green!
Keep the weather in mind when selecting outfits. If your session is going to be outdoors and you live north of Georgia, you may want to do more with layers! (More about this in a later post!)Below are a few inspiration “boards” for you. I’ve intentionally cropped the pieces pretty tightly so you can use your imagination to pull together perfect outfits for your family using a few of the ideas presented. All pieces (as far as I can remember) are from www.oldnavy.com. As of yet, I do not get paid for using their stuff – I just love it, it’s affordable, and it kept me from overthinking even more than I already did ;). There is a pin button when you hover over each “board” if you’d like to save any of these to your Pinterest boards for future reference!
